Jodi Huggett of Binbrook renewable energy company 4eco took the Woman in Business Award in a national competition for start-up companies.
The award from Simply Business and the website Start-Ups UK recognised how Jodi had created a small business that now has 23 staff and has grown 50 per cent this year.
4eco has recruited local unemployed people from the small Wolds village to make a device called immerSUN, which diverts energy generated on a rooftop solar panel and feeds it into home heating devices to create hot water or heat. It’s designed to save homes £250 a year and some 20,000 of the devices have been sold.
The company grew while Jodi battled and beat cancer.
David Lester, founder of Startups.co.uk, said her achievements are testament to what can be achieved with dedication and drive.
“Congratulations to Jodi, who has shown tremendous dedication and passion, for a fantastic win in a tough category,” he said.
Jodi, pictured here between Elizabeth Varley of TechHub and awards presenter, executive coach David McQueen, said winning the award was a huge honour.
“I am so fortunate to be surrounded by such a great team at 4eco, they have supported me throughout the last few years and enabled us to grow to huge proportions. If I can inspire just one person who feels they have reached ‘rock bottom’ and give them the confidence to put their head down, believe in themselves and their ideas then I will have made a difference,” she said.
