A dedicated volunteer at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway has won a much coveted award from the Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers.
Jim Tyers, from Bonby, near Brigg, joined the heritage steam railway as a junior member at the age of 14 and was soon assisting in the signal and telegraph (S&T) department.
After acquiring redundant signalling from other railways, and despite having no formal S & T training, Jim renovated and then installed most of the equipment himself along the line from Ludborough to North Thoresby.
Now his efforts have been rewarded after a colleague nominated him for the Volunteer of the Year Award.
