Help for Heroes is getting the nation baking a difference

Bakers from across the country are rushing to take part in the annual Help for Heroes Colossal Cake Sale, with more than 500 sales already registered to take place across the UK from April 19 to May 5.

With over a fortnight to go until the start of the Colossal Cake Sale, the Charity has already matched the total number of sales held last year – and there’s still plenty of time to register your own sale to help boost numbers even further.

Whether selling trays of cakes in the office, holding a bake sale at school or organising a cake sale in the local shopping mall, every cupcake, brownie and coffee cake sold will help provide vital support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and their families, for life.

With 10,535 British men and women injured in the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Combat Stress estimating that 40,000 Servicemen and women will suffer from some form of invisible injury over the coming years, Help for Heroes has stressed the importance of the need to provide lifelong support.

“We’re delighted to have reached the milestone of over 500 sales registered to take place, already matching last year’s total,” said Emma Parry, Co-Founder, Help for Heroes.

“It’s such a simple way to help raise funds for our Service Personnel and Veterans, and I’d urge anyone with a passion for baking to sign up now and help boost the campaign even further.

“A cake sale can be as simple as charging a few friends or colleagues for a slice of cake at home or at work, right up to getting the whole community involved, and is great fun to do.

“I’m looking forward to seeing even more registrations coming in over the coming weeks.”

Every cake sale organiser will receive a free Colossal Cake Sale fundraising pack to help make each event a success, including Help for Heroes wristbands, lapel pins, collecting tins, bunting, balloons and stickers.

The funds raised by the hundreds of Colossal Cake Sales planned to take place all over the country will help the Charity continue to deliver direct support to wounded Service Personnel and Veterans including a key new project this year, the Hidden Wounds Psychological Wellbeing Programme, as well as the on-going help available through the four Recovery Centres at Catterick, Colchester, Plymouth and Tidworth.

These projects will be instrumental in the long term support of individuals and their families.

And Whitworths Sugar is sponsoring this year’s Colossal Cake Sale and aims to entice the nation to throw on an apron, pick up a wooden spoon and bake their way to fundraising for the nation’s heroes.

To show its support, Whitworths Sugar has launched specially branded Help for Heroes sugar packs which will go on sale in Asda stores nationwide from early April.

For every special sugar pack sold, Whitworths Sugar will donate 2p.
