Nurse recruitment campaign spreads to Spain and Ireland

Hospital chiefs will be targeting Spain and Ireland as a way to fill nursing posts as they look to come out of ‘special measures’.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) said it is spending £7 million this year and next to fund the new nurses.

A spokesman said the ‘major recruitment campaign’ is targeting Spain and Ireland as well as the UK for new staff – as well as monitoring numbers at hospitals every day to make sure they are safe.

The trust’s interim director of nursing Eiri Jones said: “Historically, it has been difficult to fill all our vacancies, because clinical staff do not necessarily want to live and work in Lincolnshire.

“Recruiting to the additional posts are therefore a real challenge and we are using best recruitment practice to tackle this issue.

“While we are looking abroad, we also want to say to doctors and nurses in this country – come and work with us here, and help to make a real difference.”
