Two new £90,000 mobile breast screening vans have been launched in Lincolnshire, making services more accessible to women in and around Market Rasen- but it could be a long wait for many.

The vans will conduct screening in a number of towns and villages across the county, including Caistor, Horncastle, Louth and Mablethorpe, utilising £135,000 digital mammography machines from Siemens.

Donna Garment, breast radiology services manager at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Digital mammography machines allow for better diagnostic accuracy, especially in women with dense breast tissue such as younger women.

“The mammographers on the mobile unit are now able to see an image while they are on the mobile unit, which should reduce the need for women to return for technical imaging reasons.”

The vans will be visiting Horncastle sometime during September-November, Woodhall Spa during Dec 2014 - Jan 2015, Louth during February-October 2015, Caistor during Caistor Oct 2015 - Nov 2015, Market Rasen during December 2015-February 2016, Mablethorpe during March 2016 - May 2016.

There are also plans to add more locations.
