Caistor’s South Street Park may soon get ‘Green Flag’ status.

Caistor Town Council is considering applying to Keep Britain Tidy for the ‘Green Flag’, which is the equivalent of a Blue Flag for beaches.

Coun Mike Galligan said: “It would put us on the map.”

And Coun Mike Stopper said: “The Green Flag is the national standard for parks and green spaces

“It gives you kudos.”

But Coun Stopper warned the process would be a big task, saying: “It’s probably the biggest undertaking this town has made on a project of this kind.”

Coun Stopper said a working party would have to be set up to take the project
forward.

Mayor Carol Mackenzie added: “It’s a lovely park and enjoyed by the population of Caistor.”

At the council’s monthly meeting in the town hall, on October 8, councillors voted to seek advice before proceeding.

They agreed to get advice from In Bloom members Market Bosworth, which is a similar size town with Green Flag status.
