Go quackers for New Year race

IT’S that time of year again where everybody goes quackers for a small rubber duck.

Middle Rasen’s New Year’s Day Duck Race has become a firm favourite in the festive calendar and this year starts at 12 noon from the bridge in Low Church Road.

Spectators will see around a 1,000 individually numbered yellow plastic ducks launched into the River Rase and then, hopefully, they float rapidly down river to the finish.

Unlike the summer event, this is a simple free-for-all. The public are able to follow the race safely from road side vantage points.

The finish, at the Church Street bridge, is some 20 minutes later

Although ducks are available on the day of the race at Parry’s Bridge, local people are encouraged to buy ducks before the event.

Ducks may be purchased in advance from committee members and football and cricket club players.

A limited number of ducks are also available to order on line or from the village shop, Crossroads Stores (Middle Rasen Post Office).

To buy ducks, simply put £1 per duck in a sealed envelope with your name and telephone contact details clearly written on the outside of the envelope. Fill in the order form at Crossroads Stores and hand the securely sealed envelope, with order form attached, to staff in the shop as soon as possible or before 3pm on December 31.

Duck orders will be collected and the confirmation of shop placed orders will appear on-line at www.kwax.org.uk .

Prizes this year are £100 (first duck), £50 second, £25 (third) and £10 each for the last three ducks to finish.
