Do you remember Pavarotti singing ‘Nessun Dorma’ for the 1990 football world cup?
The music was from an opera - Turandot, by Puccini.
He is also the composer of the “Messa di Gloria’ which the Market Rasen and District Choral Society will be performing on May 21, 2016.
Inevitably, despite the religious subject, the music is operatic in style, so features some great choruses and solos.
The choir will also be singing John Rutter’s ‘Requiem’ which includes a setting of ‘Pie Jesu’ that rivals the settings of Fauré and Lloyd Webber.
The concert, in De Aston Sports Hall, will be accompanied by a full orchestra.
The soloists will come from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Rehearsals for the new season begin next Tuesday, January 12 at 7.30pm in Market Rasen C of E Primary School and anyone wishing to join the choir will be very welcome - no audition is required.
“We are keen to share our enthusiasm with others. Making music with people is a most uplifting and exciting experience - so we would encourage you to give it a try,” said chairman Karen Gramson.
