Caistor couple Alma (84) and Alwyn (86) Marriott celebrated their Diamond Wedding on May 30 with a family afternoon tea at The Mount Tea Room in Castlethorpe.
Alma and Alwyn met at a dance in the town hall when they were 20 and 22. They were married in 1955 at Holyrood Roman Catholic Church in Market Rasen.
Alma, who wore a white dress and carried a bouquet of roses, was attended by friend Jill Hewson and Kay Marriott as bridesmaids, with Joshua Harriman as pageboy.
Alwyn chose his brother Ezra as best man.
A reception was held in Rothwell School, followed by a week-long honeymoon in Scarborough.
After the wedding, the Marriotts lived apart for three months before Alwyn got a job and accommodation in Cuxwold, where they lived for six years before moving to Caistor.
They now have two daughters, Sandra and Carol, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
When they met, Alma worked at Yarborough School in the kitchen and from 1969-1995 she worked in the kitchen at the Grammar School.
Alwyn worked for Barrs, collecting milk churns from local farmers.
He enjoyed playing football, bowls and darts, while Alma enjoyed flower arranging, bowls and cooking, running a Luncheon Club at The Methodist Church with her sister Mary Harriman for many years.
Alma said: “Yes we do have our ups and downs but we are very lucky to still be together.”
And Alwyn added: “I agree with Alma’s statement entirely.”
