In 1946 a number of young men met and decided to pool their model railway equipment to make a railway to amuse the children.
Those men, unknowingly, laid the foundations for what is now one of the largest model railways in the United Kingdom.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Gainsborough Model Railway, former members were invited to a reunion to relive their happy days with the group.
And the railway is open to the general public today, Sunday July 17, at the Society’s clubrooms in Florence Terrace, close to the town’s Tesco store, from 1.30pm to 6pm.
Admission is £4 for adults, £3 for children and senior citizens, with a family ticket for £10.
A viewing of the model railway can also be arranged by contacting the secretary, Barry Hodkinson, on 01427 615131 or e-mail email@example.com.
