The 70th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day will be marked in Market Rasen this weekend.
The Tealby and Market Rasen Branch of the Royal British Legion will be parading their standard at the 10am service in Market Rasen Parish Church, St Thomas’s, this Sunday, September 6.
It is hoped the Legion standard will be accompanied by those of the Army Cadet Force and Air Cadet Force in Market Rasen.
“The suffering of the many thousands of British and Commonwealth troops as well as the local civilian population endured during their years of captivity is well documented, said Les Tranter, Legion branch secretary.
“Their sacrifice should not be forgotten.
“Although the surrender was actually made on the 16th of August 1945, the surrender documents were not signed until the 2nd of September, which is why the Branch decided to delay their commemorations.”
