More than 200 schools across Leicestershire were affected by Tuesday’s teachers’ strike.

Some schools in the Melton borough were closed or partially closed.

A statement issued on behalf of the teaching unions the NUT and NASUWT said the regional action was ‘a result of the coalition government’s failure to enter into meaningful talks to resolve the dispute over pay, pensions, job cuts and workload’.

Plans for a national one-day walk out before Christmas have also been announced by the unions.
