Plans to help playgroup ride recession

A VILLAGE playgroup is hoping local people and businesses will get behind them to help keep them going.

Hainton playgroup has been going for more than 28 years, but with falling numbers local support is needed to help them through the recession.

Playgroup supervisor Maria Davidson told the Mail: “We are looking to local individuals and businesses for donations to help us through this very tough term.

“We were affected by Ludford School closing last year, as that was one of the schools we fed in to.

“We have wonderful facilities here and have just, this year, opened a new area to accommodate babies from 6 weeks to 2 years old, to offer greater flexibility for working families.”

In a bid to boost numbers and raise some much-needed funds, the playgroup is holding an open evening and fundraiser this Friday, May 20, for prospective parents to go along and see what the playgroup has to offer.

The evening will demonstrate how children learn through play and what they achieve when they play.

As well as meeting the staff, there will be a full range of activities to do, plus a tour of the large outdoor area.

“We hope as many people as possible will come and support us, and see what a fantastic facility we have here at The Old School” added Mrs Davidson

“Anyone wanting to make a donation to the playgroup, which is a registered charity, can contact us on 01507 313543, come along on the night between 7.30pm and 9pm or donate on line at”
