Parents have been left shocked after a surprise announcement that Lincolnshire Montessori school in Caistor is closing.
The private £5,788-a-year school , for children aged 0 to 12, closed its doors for the last time yesterday (Tuesday).
Parents were only informed of the plans last week and many have been left to make last minute childcare arrangements.
It is understood the company is to go into receivership. However, at the time of going to press, Lincolnshire Montessori had not responded to the Rasen Mail’s request for a comment.
According to online site Company Check the school, whose company name is Montessori Educare Limited, has £319,466 of liabilities, £69,074 of assests and a net worth of minus £168,441.
Lincolnshire County Council early years entitlement officer Geraldine O’Neill said: “We were only made aware of this news on Thursday.
“Half of the children are transferring to a nursery in Stallingborough over the border.
“We suggest parents should look for alternative provision in the area via our Family Information Service.”
To contact the service go to lincolnshire.gov.uk/fis or call 0800 1951635.
Ms O’Neill added: “There is some local provision at other settings in the area.”
The Montessori approach to learning puts emphasis on respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development.
According to the Lincolnshire Montessori website, children learn “independence, accomplishment, a sense of challenge and achievement and the importance of teamwork”.
