Year 10 students at Caistor Yarborough Academy got an insight into politics when they welcomed Lloyd Brown, assistant to Stoke on Trent MP Rob Fello, to speak to them on why young people should engage with local, regional and national politics.
The former Caistor Grammar School pupil described how he had first become involved with politics while at the school and had then continued to take his interests further while studying at Keele University.
Referring to the British electoral system, Mr Brown gave voice to his own personal concerns over the lack of trust politicians and party politics have encountered over recent years, but equally he felt much good was being done by many MPs who work hard for their constitutes.
“Mr Brown shone a new light on politicians compared to how they are often portrayed in the media,” said student Sophie Wilson.
And fellow student Cameron McFarlane added: “I felt more inspired to get involved in politics as well as feeling more informed about what goes on in party offices.”
