West Lindsey District councillor Giles McNeil, who was also waiting for the 12.03pm train on Saturday, has slammed the service as “disgusting” - and is demanding a meeting with transport bosses and MP Sir Edward Leigh.
Coun McNeil - who is also a constituency aide for Sir Edward - posted a message on Twitter stating: “Disgusting service from @EMTrains at Market Rasen 12:03.
“57 passengers turned away due to lack of capacity: Without any warning!”
East Midlands Train responded by saying: “We are sorry for this Giles, regrettably all our carriages are being used to their maximum capacity.”
But Coun McNeil retaliated, saying: “And what alternative did you offer?
“What announcement was made on platform?
“What apology offer by the train crew? None.”
East Midlands Trains then said: “Compensation. Our apologies.”
And Coun McNeil then had the final word, saying: “I will be, don’t worry about that.
“I will be seeking a meeting with @transportgovuk ministers and Sir @EdwardLeigh MP.”
Coun McNeil said all kinds of people were waiting for the busy train, including elderly and disabled people and young children.
