Lots of little girls dream of becoming a ballet dancer, but for one 11-year-old that dream has now come one step closer to being reality.
Anna Daly from Welton is one of just 12 girls to be given a coveted place at the Royal Ballet School this year.
“I was so excited when I got the letter saying I had got a place,” said Anna.
“I just like couldn’t wait to get there and wondered who else had got in.
“It was just the best day.”
Anna was one of 1,000 girls from across the country to take part in the preliminary auditions back in January.
She then made it through to the final 30 to face a full day of exercises, classes and interviews.
“It was very different to our normal classes,” said Anna.
“I felt it had gone well, but I knew how many girls were going for the places.”
Anna has been an associate member of the Royal ballet School since she was eight, but was the only girl from her class to get a full time place at the school.
And her parents - Deb, a physio at Market Rasen Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic, and Mark, a postman - are understandably proud of her achievements.
“She was with the best dancers from across the country at the auditions and I thought oh my goodness, but she gave it her all” said Deb.
“We’re ordinary people; things like this don’t happen to us. It is a massive opportunity for Anna and we are extremely proud of her.”
Anna has been dancing since she was four years old and from the age of seven has gone to the Joanne Haylock School of Dance in Lincoln
It was Joanne who encouraged her to apply for the Royal Ballet School Junior Associate scheme and for the past three years, Anna has travelled to London on Saturdays for classes and workshops.
From this, Anna took to the stage of The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden earlier this month in the Mariinsky Ballet’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with an audience of 2,000 each night.
And on September 6, Anna will take up her place at White Lodge.
“I feel a bit nervous, but I guess everyone will,” said Anna, who will be doing four hours dance and four hours academic studies each day.
“I am looking forwarded to the dancing most and being with other people who love ballet.”
Like 95 percent of Royal Ballet School students, Anna will receive a department of Education scholarship, but the family is looking for sponsors for the many other costs.
