AN ELDERLY woman who almost became the victim of a phone scam is warning people to be vigilant.
The 87-year-old woman from Caistor, who does not wish to be named, received a phone call last week from a woman who claimed to be from NatWest bank and wanted to change a safety feature on the account.
The elderly woman was asked to read out her card numbers over the phone – she was just about to do this when she decided against it.
She said: “Even though I’ve always been told not to give out any details over the phone it was so convincing, I really thought it was the NatWest bank.
“I was so frightened afterwards thinking what could have happened.”
