Police are advising all Land Rover Defender owners to be extra vigilant around their vehicle security after recent thefts in the area.

Sometime overnight on Monday, October 5 into Tuesday, October 6 a silver Defender was stolen from a property in Cammeringham; another report was also received on October 6 that a Defender in black was stolen from a property in Walesby Hill; and today (Thursday, October 8) another report was received that a green Defender was stolen from a property in Somerby.

Police are taking this opportunity to issue a security reminder in light of that fact that the Land Rover Defenders seem to be of interest to offenders: make sure your vehicle is as safe and secure as it can be. Invest in a sturdy steering lock and make sure it is used whenever you are away from your vehicle. If possible park in a locked garage or outhouse, or at least a well-lit area. Always make sure your vehicle is properly deadlocked and your alarm is fully activated before walking away.

In addition, check your security and lock all doors and windows properly.

A spokesman said: “Opportunistic criminals are not adverse to trying door handles to see if they can easily access a property and steal keys from within. Don’t keep keys in an obvious place within the house.

“Finally, report any suspicious activity or people to us. If you see something that is odd or out of place around a vehicle it could be just the information we need to find the people responsible.”
