Men in court over alleged speed camera arson attack

TWO men have appeared at Lincoln Crown Court charged in connection with an arson attack on a speed camera.

Ashley Rowland, 23, of Adwick Road, Mexborough is accused of setting fire to a Lincolnshire Police speed camera on the A631 at Hemswell Cliff.

Mr Rowland appeared in the dock alongside Anthony Luty, 28, of Hollowgate, Barnborough, Doncaster, who is charged with conspiring to commit and arson attack on a speed camera which was set alight on October 18 last year.

Mr Luty is also accused of perverting the course of justice after allegedly entering into an agreement with Mr Rowland to destroy the Hemswell Cliff camera, which had allegedly photographed him speeding on October 17, 2011.

The pair spoke only to confirm their names during the five minute hearing.

No pleas were entered and judge Sean Morris adjourned the case for trial at Lincoln Crown Court in November.

The two men were granted bail until September 24 when they will next appear at Lincoln Crown Court to make a plea.
