An angry Market Rasen Mayor has hit out at the “mindless” theft of a gate leading into De Aston field.
The wooden five bar access gate is believed to have been stolen between Wednesday teatime and Friday morning last week.
Mayor John Matthews said the 1.2metre gate would cost around £200 to replace.
“The Town Council works hard to improve facilities within the Town and does what it thinks best for the people of Market Rasen.”
“What would then possess an individual or group to steal an access gate to De Aston Field?” he asked.
Mayor Matthews added it would be “mindless” to take the gate and use it for firewood, branding the theft “pointless vandalism.”
“It really is beyond comprehension and potentially puts a burden on the ratepayer, either in replacement cost or increased premium.”
