Help to hook the illegal fishermen

MEMBERS of the public are being urged to report instances where they believe fishing is being carried out illegally on the Ancholme.

Changes to fisheries enforcement policies took place in 2011 and there are now two full-time fisheries enforcement officers for Anglian Water.

Where the public are suspicious, they should ring the Environment Agency hotline on 0800 807060.

Fish stocks in the river are declining and representatives of the Scunthorpe and Brigg Angling Association reported to the spring meeting of the Ancholme Users Group that increased numbers of mink and cormorant on the Ancholme, both predators, are one of the main causes of the decline.
