Brigg man to appear in court after elderly couple robbery

A Brigg man has been charged in connection with an aggravated burglary at Elm Grove in Scunthorpe.

Harley Newland, 22, of River View, Mill Lane, has been charged with robbery, two counts of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an imitation firearm.

He is due to appear at Scunthorpe Magistrates Court today (Monday December 29).

A 27-year-old woman arrested has been released on police bail and a 36-year-old man earlier arrested in connection with the incident remains on police bail.

Detective Inspector John Cram, leading the investigation, said: “This was a brutal attack on two very elderly people in their own home just days before Christmas.

“The police operation to identify and locate the suspect has meant we have had a very busy time over the festive period but we have now charged a man in relation to the incident.

“We all hope the injured couple, who remain in hospital at this time, make a full recovery and are able to return to their home. Out thoughts are with them and with their family.”
