Council split over police station’s future

A DECISION on the future of Market Rasen’s Old Police Station again split opinion at a meeting of Market Rasen Town Council last week.

No plan for the long-term future of the building has been made, but councillors resolved to invest some money into the upkeep of the exterior of the building and general maintenance.

But councillors opinions were split on this matter too.

Coun John Hadlow said: “Based on discussions we had the other week I believe it is time we move forward and get the outside of the building retouched.”

But Coun Linda Bowen has long worked with Rase Heritage Society on restoring the Old Police Station until the plans were effectively rejected earlier this month due to a lack of funding.

She told councillors she could not believe the council would consider spending money on restoring the outside when it voted against investing money in the project to restore the inside.

Coun Jane Ladley added: “I thought it had not been decided what to do with the Old Police Station, so why spend money on it, it could be throwing money away.”
