A meeting last week saw representatives from local organisations come together to discuss ‘the concept of a town partnership’, the Mail can reveal.

Market Rasen Town Council, Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and MR BIG representatives met last Friday morning (February 17) to discuss the future of support for businesses in and around Market Rasen - and the possibility of a town partnership.

Also discussed were the remaining funds from the Portas Pilot scheme, which, the Mail reported, amounts to £24,000.

The leftover grant was discussed by the town’s finance committee at a meeting on Wednesday January 18.

Following the meeting, members of the group issued a statement to the Market Rasen Mail.

John Matthews, Market Rasen town councillor and town Mayor, said:“Our meeting was very open and productive.

“Initial thoughts over the future of the project are very encouraging and I look forward to working with Lincolnshire Chamber and local business owners going forward.”

Simon Beardsley, Chief Executive of Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “I was extremely pleased to meet with members of the Town Council and discuss the future of the Town Partnership.

“There is a common desire to support commerce in Market Rasen and I look forward to moving the project on.

“I was also pleased to reassure the Town Council that the plan in place to support the Town Partnership with legacy funds will ensure that 100% of those funds will be spent on projects and events in Market Rasen.”

Richard Hallsworth, who facilitated the meeting, said: “The MR BIG board had a vision for how funds left over would be spent.

“The meeting with the Town Council and Lincolnshire Chamber has enhanced this vision and I am sure will lead to proactive steps now been taken by both of these organisations to develop the town.”

Further information will be released in the forthcoming weeks as the project develops.
