A long serving Market Rasen Town Councillor was presented with the Princess Diana Community Award 2015 at the annual parish meeting last week.
John Hadlow is retiring from the council after eight years at the May 7 election as he is suffering from Motor Neurone Disease, but, presenting the award, Mayor John Matthews said John’s tireless work for the council had left the town better off.
He added: “John has worked extremely hard, particularly in looking after the council’s properties. His work on the Old Police Station and Festival Hall will last for many years.”
Accepting the award with John, his wife Angelika said: “Thank you everybody for this, it means a lot to us.”
Other nominees for this year’s awards were Tony Smith, the husband of MR BIG’s former markets director Jackie Smith who spent countless hours setting up and taking down market stalls and Sandra Jenner, a fundraiser for the air ambulance and St Barnabas Hospice and also co-ordinates the Market Rasen calendar images.
