A charity is marking four years of rescuing local people from the misery of personal debt – a free service that is literally saving lives.

In 2010, members of Market Rasen New Life Church felt they wanted to do more to help people tackle their financial worries. They partnered with UK debt counselling charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP) and received training to open a local branch.

Debt coach and centre Leader Estelle Forsythe has worked with 49 clients over the past four years.

“The service itself is absolutely free and it is a real joy to see clients released from the burden of debt; there are some wonderful stories,” she said.

And this month, as well as the group celebrating its fourth birthday, Estelle is celebrating another client being declared debt free.

“It is a privilege to work with an organisation like CAP and to support Estelle who gives her time completely voluntarily,” said New Life Pastor Paul Hiley.

“If there is anyone out there who needs this service all they need to do is ring 0800 328 0006 and they will be given a visit by Estelle to start them off with a budget and a CAP plan.

“CAP does all the negotiating with creditors, so the burden is taken away from you and your family.

“And CAP will help anyone -
regardless of their religious beliefs.”

To mark the centre’s fourth birthday, there will be a coffee, cakes and cards morning at St Thomas’s Church Room in Market Rasen Market Place on Friday, November 14 from 10am, when the money raised will be used to ensure the future of this free service.
