Ever wondered what happens in the Lincolnshire countryside while you sleep? Well it appears dragons take to the skies.
At least they did at the RASE Distribution depot at Wickenby Airfield this morning, Friday August 23, when a one of a kind 61ft, fire breathing, dragon hot air balloon took to the skies at 6am.
The logistics company ran a competition with its customers to win a flight in ‘Slick the Dragon’ and offered its top three clients and two lucky members of staff the chance to get a unique view of our county.
John Battle from RASE Pallet Network Development said: “It obviously caused quite a lot of interest and everyone has been sky high with excitement.
“The dragon has a machine attached allowing it to breath smoke making it a one off spectacle in the skies of Lincolnshire.
“We wanted to introduce something a little different to the marketing aspect of the pallet network and the availability of a unique hot air balloon through our association as a Palletways member depot was the perfect choice.”
Slick the Dragon was designed by Lindstrand Balloons, whose Swedish founder Per Linstrand was involved in an attempt to fly a balloon around the world with Richard Branston in 1998.
Sadly the gusty weather on Friday morning meant the full 40 minute balloon trip could not go ahead, but tethered rides were still enjoyed.
