Renovation work on a run-down site in Hibaldstow has started in order to make way for the village’s first convenience store.
The Co-op will be situated on the corner of Redbourne Road and West Street and will open next year after extensive work on the site.
Planning permission for the site was granted earlier this year after property consultants Bruton Knowles brokered the deal with The Co-op and Saxondale properties.
Stuart Hastings, associate for Bruton Knowles, said: “Residents in Hibaldstow currently do not have a convenience store, so this new shop is a much-needed facility which many residents have wished for for many years.
“The development also means a run-down site in the area will be tidied up and it will create several jobs for local people.”
The site, once complete, will also offer 22 parking spaces to customers.
“We are confident that our new store will be a real asset to the community,” said Mark Draper, regional acquisition manager for The Co-operative Food.
