A BEER festival is set to be held in Market Rasen in October after the town council approved plans for the event to be held in the Festival Hall.

Organised by Brian Sankey of The Chase pub in Market Rasen, the festival will be held on Saturday October 8.

Mr Sankey said: “I’m going to invite as many of the local Lincoln and area breweries to have a stand so they can bring as many beers as they like so we are talking about more than 100 ales.

“If we do it along the lines of a trade show the breweries will bring their own staff and they will know more about their individual ales.

“I hope it will bring people into Market Rasen and that it will introduce people to real ale. If it is a success I would like it to be annual and we may be able to expand.”

The beer festival was approved at last Wednesday’s Market Rasen Town Council meeting.

Coun Steve Bunney said: “I would like to see this festival go ahead as long as it has proper security on the door and inside and that all licensing laws are met.”

Mr Sankey plans to run the beer festival between around 10am and 8pm in order to not affect the town’s evening pub trade and entry will cost £3.50.
