A Market Rasen businesswoman is celebrating five years of trading and taking time to reflect on her time in the town’s high street.
Since Blue River Jewellery opened in 2010, owner Wendy Harrison has traded from two sites in Queen Street.
The business started life in shared premises at the railway bridge end of the town, before taking over the whole shop and then moving to its current position at the market end of the main street.
“It’s very clear that we may only have one high street, but there are two very different areas,” said Wendy. “This end is definitely busier.”
But Wendy knows the key to continuing to flourish is variety and working with new ideas, such as those tried by MR BIG.
“Ten years ago I worked in the Rainbow Room and I know how busy it was then and how much quieter it is now,” added Wendy.
“I backed MR BIG with what they asked us to do, but I didn’t agree with how it was run. Some of their ideas worked and even if people didn’t use the shops on the market days, it hopefully made them come back later.
“Not everybody was a fan of the markets, but that is what we are - a market town.”
