West Lindsey District Council’s planning committee has unanimously rejected a proposal for four broiler units for 180,000 birds - despite officers’ recommendations to approve the plan.
Mercer Farming had wanted to put the broilers on land off Gulham Road, North Owersby, but councillors rejected the proposal on highways grounds.
Nearby residents had opposed the scheme, saying Gulham Road was too narrow for HGVs, which would be needed to service the units.
The planning committee deferred a decision at its April 27 meeting for members to make a site visit and assess the routeing to the area.
Planners had recommended the broiler for approval subject to conditions, including improvements being made to the road, landscaping and an odour management strategy.
