GOING POTTY – Yet another busy evening awaited members of the WI as they welcomed Louth potter John Teanby to their February meeting.
Seating was eagerly arranged to watch John throw his pots and he got everyone involved by asking them to guess which of the three pots he showed was the oldest – only a few got it right.
He then spoke of his previous lives and how he began making pots.
John made two pots in quick succession using his potter’s wheel and handmade finishing tools.
He then demonstrated how he painted his bowls after they had dried for a few days, while speaking about the many processes involved.
John also had the difficult task of judging the monthly competition, this time for an item of pottery, but he named Hilary Fry’s entry the winner, with Kathy Shaw second and Joan Birch third.
Flower of the month was won by Kathy Shaw, with Marion Nichols second and Hilary Harris third.
It was with sadness members learned several of their more mature ladies had decided not to renew their membership this year. However, they all hope to get along to the group from time to time as visitors.
Next month is the group’s annual meeting, followed by a short talk on the RNLI, when visitors are always welcome – charge £3.
