A former De Aston student will be heading to Beverly Hills next month to pick up an Academy Award.

Philip Mclauchlan will be one of 25 people honoured at the annual Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation to be held on February 9.

Dr Mclauchlan is being recognised for his work creating the Mocha planar tracking and rotoscoping software, along with Allan Jaenicke, John–Paul Smith and Ross Shain, through his company Imagineer Systems.

The special effects computer programme has been used extensively in the making of many Hollywood blockbusters.

Philip attended De Aston from around 1975 to 1982, do you remember him?
