A MARKET Rasen music teacher is getting in the habit of appearing on stage.
Julie Medler of Queen Street has landed the starring role of Maria in The Sound of Music, being performed by Louth Playgoers this month.
Although Julie has been involved with the group for a number of years, this is the first time she has taken a role of this magnitude.
“At first I thought I can do this, then I thought oh no what have I done, but now I am looking forward to it,” said Julie, who also works as a teaching assistant at De Aston School.
Rehearsals for the production began back in January, but it is only this last week the cast have been able to get on to the stage.
And with the first performance only two weeks away, Julie is now spending four nights a week at the theatre for final rehearsals.
“The best thing about it all is that no matter how panicky I feel, the rest of the cast is very supportive,” added Julie.
But the 27-year-old is no stranger to singing in public, as a professional singer she is often engaged for weddings and other events.
And having studied music at university, she is now passing on her many musical skills to others.
“Music is always there for me,” said Julie.
“If I don’t have any form of music in my life, it would just feel very empty.”
The Sound of Music runs from May 16 to May 26 at the Riverhead Theatre in Louth.
