Speaker at the March meeting of Brigg Amateur Social Historians was David Shepperson, who provided an illustrated talk on Women in the First World War.
The previous month, members heard a fascinating talk by Ralph Appleyard on the Georgian and Victorian Clockmakers of Brigg and they were surprised to learn that from 1760 to 1900 at least 23 clockmakers worked in the town at different times.
Meetings continue to be well attended and are held at the Brigg and District Servicemen’s Club in Coney Court, starting at 8pm.
No charge is made, supper is provided and a collection is taken to defray expenses.
On Tuesday April 7, Terry Richards will give a talk on TV Nostalgia from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
And on Tuesday May 5, Peter Higginbottom will present Gruelling Experiences, Three Centuries of the Workhouse. The oldest residents of Brigg will recall the days in the 1950s when the present residential home on the War Memorial Roundabout site was one such Workhouse.
