The Spring Show, the first of the season for the Barkwith and District Gardeners Association, again proved to be a huge success.
The produce section was disappointing although there some tasty entries which received complements from the judges with chocolate cakes being very popular.
The floral art section had fewer entries than usual too but the flower arrangers always provide beautiful displays which are admired by visitors when the show opens during the afternoon.
An exquisite piece of delicate lace created by Mary Dixon was also much admired by the judge too as it must have involved many hours of work and she was rewarded with the Needle Craft Trophy for the best exhibit in the handicraft section.
Other trophy winners were: Peat Challenge Cup for most points in the flower section Lyn Small; Jack and Mabel Atkin trophy for the best daffodil in the show Sheilah Fincham; the Joan Clark trophy for the most points in the produce section Lyn Small; the Grace Clark trophy for most points in the floral art section shared between Sheila Minns Arthur Wilson trophy for the best exhibit in the photography section Shirley Booth.
Entries were taken on the day by Sheila Minns and Jean Thompson and judges were Bill Parrott daffodils, Barbara Chester and Maureen Williams produce, Jenny Hippisley floral art, John Edwards photography and Maureen Williams handicrafts and the trophies for the exhibitors who had gained the most points or provided the prize exhibit in each section were presented by Miss Mary Jordan.
