The Rotary Club of Market Rasen collected a total of £873.51 from generous shoppers at the Co-op stores in Caistor and Market Rasen. As in previous years, the collected money will be forwarded to the Shelter Box organisation, which sends the familiar green boxes out to disasters that have taken place anywhere in the world.
Special boxes have also been prepared recently and dispatched to areas where there have been massive movements of refugees, including many children.
The packs contain school equipment to allow education to continue in refugee camps.
As always, there is variation in amounts collected at each store, which is very date dependant.
The collection at Caistor was on December 19, and that at Market Rasen on December 23.
And this year the Market Rasen Co-op store’s staff and customers donated 60 percent of the income and Caistor 40 percent, but this was reversed in 2013.
Two collectors were present at each location, on two-hour shifts through the day.
“The Rotary Club is very grateful for all donations and also to the Managers and staff at each branch, who warmly accept our presence,” said Rotarian David Mason.
“And should anyone wish to join us in our efforts to improve the local and the international community we live in, please contact our secretary Andrew on 01673 838551.”
