A Service of Thanksgiving for the life of John Needham Sleight, aged 92 years of Walesby, was held at the parish church.
The Rev John Carr officiated at the service and arrangements were by J Marshall of Market Rasen.
Born in Pilham, near Gainsborough, John served with the RAF in 211 Squadron from 1942 to 1946.
He was a navigator, mainly based in India for the purpose of operations over Burma, for which he was awarded the Burma Star.
From 1946, he worked as a Vehicle Licensing Officer for local government and then the Civil Service.
He took early retirement in 1982.
John was actively involved in both the Methodist Church and the Church of England all his life.
He held a variety of offices, including Church Steward, Circuit Secretary and treasurer.
He also acted as returning officer for elections in Lincoln.
Family mourners were: Maisie Sleight (wife); Chris Sleight (son) and his wife Shirley Knights and her children Ben and Vicky; David Sleight (son) and his wife Isabel and their son Henry; Sarah Clark (daughter) and her husband Ian Clark; Rob Sleight (brother) and his son Howard; Mary Sleight (cousin); Eileen Gale (sister-in-law) and her husband Ron Gale.
