Nottinghamshire continues to bloom with great vigour and vitality and at the end of June and beginning of July there is a group of gardens – Norwell Gardens - to tempt garden lovers to go out and visit.

Take time out from your own garden labour and enjoy viewing the labours of other hands.

These gardens, opening Sunday June 28 from 1pm to 5pm and Wednesday July 1 from 6.30pm to 9pm - are offering exceptional visions of colour, perfume, textures and in some cases sounds.

Six Gardens - Artisan’s Cottage, Ash House, Hopbine Farmhouse, Ossington, Norwell Allotment Parish Gardens, Norwell Nurseries, and The Old Forge – provide a unique opportunity to visit a range of different, very appealing gardens set in a quintessentially English village.

The range is from an inspirational plantsman’s garden with more than 2,500 different plants radiating from a ‘Monet’ pond (Norwell Nurseries), through allotments of different sizes tended by gardeners from all generations growing fruit, to a new mature garden in the centre of the village.

And there are tremendous variations, including walled, scented gardens, water features, sun and shade gardens, pools of perennial colour and gardens where innovative features abound with lush and colourful plantings including roses and grasses.

The beautiful medieval church and its peaceful churchyard with grass labyrinth will be open too and the parish church of St Laurence will be the setting for ‘Humour in World War II’ - cartoons, poetry, songs and flowers showing how soldiers used humour to cope with the horror of war.

So, take the opportunity to visit one of more of these treasures and whilst doing so support The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) in raising money for good causes such as Macmillan Cancer Support and Help the Hospices.

Combined entry for each opening is £4; children free.

Tea and home-made cake will be on sale in the Village Hall on June 28 and at Norwell Nurseries on July 1 to complete a pleasurable and relaxing visit.

High quality plants will be available to buy at Norwell Nurseries.
