Discover what clues rocks can give us as to what happened in the past by joining community heritage project, Down Your Wold, for a free talk on Lincolnshire geology.

Paul Hidreth will be the guest speaker for the event in Nettleton Village Hall next Wednesday, January 28, starting at 7pm.

Paul has devoted his life to studying and teaching geography and geology. Paul now acts as General Secretary to the Yorkshire Geological Society, works for the Lincolnshire Geoconservation Group of the GLNP and has recently set up a new geology group in Brigg.

The talk links into a current research project to discover more about the Lincolnshire Wolds ironstone mining industry and will be on the Lower Cretaceous stratigraphy of Lincolnshire, which will show the relationship of the Claxby Ironstone to the other components of the sedimentary sequence.

“This free event is aimed at giving people a better understanding of the different layers which build up the Lincolnshire Wolds landscape we see today,” said Down Your Wold project officer Sam Phillips.

“It will also explore the ironstone of the area which once brought the mining industry to the Wolds.”
