Gardeners visit Hovingham

Hovingham Hall in Yorkshire, the childhood home of the former Katherine Worseley, Duchess of Kent was the choice for a day trip for the Barkwith and District Gardeners Association members and friends.

The first stop was at Dean’s Garden Centre for breakfast, before travelling on enjoying the countryside as they took a relaxed route to Hovingham.

They were able to enjoy a one and half hour tour of the Worseley family home, where their helpful and very knowledgeable guide was the wife of the last estate tenant farmer.

The visitors were interested to hear of the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Kent as their guide recalled the day the bride travelled from the Hall for her marriage at York Minster.

The wedding party then returned to the Hall for the reception in a marquee in the grounds, a memorable occasion for all involved while the public had been able to share the service on television.

There was then time to explore the large garden and grounds at their leisure before leaving for the homeward journey, which, as always on trips organised by Les

Robinson, included a stop for the main meal of the day.
