Market Rasen Gardening Club
Members of Market Rasen Gardening Club were joined by guests from Middle Rasen Horticultural Society to hear about the life and times of Pottertons Nursery.
The family run business in Moortown Road at Nettleton specialises in alpines and bulbs.
Speaker Rob Potterton outlined the 43 year history of the nursery, which has enjoyed great success at many shows, including Chelsea and Harrogate.
Schedules were given out for the spring show, together with information about the trip to Harrogate Spring Show on April 26.
The three-way quiz between Market Rasen, Woodhall Spa and East Barkwith will be held on March 22 at East Barkwith.
The next meeting of the gardening club is on February 26, when the speaker will be Hazel Kay talking on colour, shape and texture.

Friends of St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice
The year’s fundraising begins for the Friends of the Hospice group this Saturday, February 2.
A coffee morning will be held in St Thomas’s Church Room in Market Rasen Market Place from 10am to 2pm.
As well as refreshments, there will be cakes, books, tombola and raffle.
The quiz night in Middle Rasen Church Hall raised £435 and the soft toy tombola at the Mayor’s charity event a further £200.
All money raised go towards the work of the hospice.
Future events for the group include a strawberry evening on June 22 and a garden party on July 21.
Market Rasen Bridge Club
Ann Painter and Brenda Bassford have enjoyed a flying start to 2013 with two wins in two weeks.
The opening competition on January 3 at Rase Park was very close.
Amongst the N-S pairs, Ann and Brenda just squeezed in ahead of a further three pairs who were within 1.2%.
The E-W pairs were all very evenly matched with only 7% between first and last - Judy Clark and Grace Dobson coming out on top.
The event on January 10 attracted a very good turnout of ten tables and produced clear winners.
This time, Ann and Brenda headed the E-W pairs whilst Guy Grainger and Ben Smith were the top N-S pair.

Market Rasen Brownies
Brownies from both Middle Rasen and Market Rasen paid a visit to Market Rasen Library last week to work on their computer badge.
Basic use of a computer, including clip art and letter writing, together with searching items on the internet and sending an email were all included in the session, together with keeping safe online.
And there were lots of helpers on hand to assist the girls complete all the elements of the badge in one go.
