Brian Peeps, the publicity officer for the Humber Sloop & Keel society, gave an illustrated talk to the WI at their June meeting.
He talked about the men and women of North Lincolnshire who worked on the Humber in the past with the help of the society’s photographic archive, which was projected onto the large screen.
Pictures taken outside pubs seemed to be the most numerous, a practice which is being happily continued by the modern volunteer sailors of the restored boats.
Winner of the competition for a nautical item was Hilary Fry, with a telescope, and flower of the month winner was Ann Williams, with a corn cockle.
The next meeting will be in the village hall on Thursday, July 3, at 7.15pm, when Connie Hurd will be encouraging participation in Egyptian dance.
Following on from the May meeting, a mosaic workshop has been organised for Monday, September 29 from 10am to 4pm, with Karen Frosdick.
The cost is £33 for WI members and £36 for non-members.
