Sheila Minns welcomed 30 members of the Gardeners Association to the first monthly meeting of the new indoor season at the village hall when a plant swap was held as a new feature too.
All were invited to take a surplus plant along and either exchange it for one that they may have admired in someone else’s garden or make a small donation to the funds.
Every member present was also given a packet containing two hawera miniature multi-headed daffodil bulbs, and while these were not for any specific purpose, there will be a class they can be entered in at the spring show next year.
The evening’s speaker was Dave Newman, who gave a talk on life in the Victorian Garden, describing the duties of the staff from the head gardener down to the lowliest position known as ‘The Boy’.
Terry Ringrose presented a ‘penthouse’ bird box to the Gardeners Association and he was thanked by the chairman before it was offered for auction during the meeting, when it raised £25.
