Year 11 students from De Aston School celebrated today after receiving their GCSE results at the end of an extraordinary year.

There were a number of notable performances from the Class of 2020.

Daniel Wilson achieved six grade 9s, two grade 8s and one grade 7.

Florence Williams received two grade 9s and three grade 8s.

Meanwhile, Hannah Neal scored two grade 9s, two grade 8s, three grade 7s and two grade 6s.

Head teacher, Simon Porter said: “I am incredibly impressed by the way this year’s Year 11 have dealt with the situation they were put in; unlike any other Year 11 has ever been in before.

“The large majority of the year group have already applied to come back to De Aston Sixth Form to stay with us for the next couple of years. We will have consultation meetings with them over the next few days to sort out the best courses for them.

“I also want to take this opportunity to thank my staff for the quality of the teaching that they delivered throughout the last two years, it is that teaching that has seen this year group make the progress they have.

“There is a lot to reflect on over the government’s exam processes but today it should be all about the students and a celebration of the progress they have made and their achievements. I wish them well.”

Shelly Futter, Head of Year 11 at De Aston School, said: “Congratulations to all of our Year 11 students collecting their results today at the end of a very testing year.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to be Head of Year for this year group and I am most proud of everything they have accomplished so far.

“I also look forward to welcoming many of them back into Sixth Form and seeing what they go on to achieve.

To all my Year 11 students, thank you for four fantastic years and I can’t wait to see and hear about your future successes. Best wishes and good luck to all of you.”
