Land Army letters tell true story of unsung heroines

The Women’s Land Army is the focus for Lindsey Rural Players’ latest play at the Broadbent Theatre, Wickenby this month.

Lilies on the Land charts the personal journeys of four women who sign up to become Land Girls - determined to work long, backbreaking hours on farms across the country in a bid to do their best for the War Effort.

It was a shock for the city girls in particular.

The play is based on hundreds of letters and interviews with original Land Girls.

Along with songs from the period, it is a revealing, funny and moving portrait of some of Britain’s pluckiest, unsung heroines.

Lilies on the Land will be performed on May 9, 10 and 11 at 7.30pm.

Tickets costs £7, with £5.50 concessions, and are available from www.broadbent.org or the Box Office on 01673 885500.
