A new leaflet is helping all ages identify a range of herbs and encourage their culinary uses.
The Incredible Edible Herb Trail has been created by the town’s award-winning Caistor in Bloom group.
Starting at Caistor Post Office, where the free leaflets are available, participants need to identify the herbs planted in the beds and barrels around the town and then place the relevant sticker onto the map.
Finished trails can then be returned to the Post Office for checking, where a prize is given to each correct entry.
“The Incredible Edible Caistor Herb Trail is a great initiative to help encourage families to try different herbs,” said Caistor in Bloom president Ernie Brown.
And it was one of the many things that impressed the Britain in Bloom judges who visited the town recently.
The inspiration for the trail came from the RHS Britain in Bloom Seminar held in Harrogate earlier this year.
“Great store was taken from the workshops and inspiration turned to reality with several edible projects resulting from that very day,” added Ernie.
“And a generous offer to sponsor the leaflets came from local business Systematic Print Management.”
