THERE was more than a touch of Irish charm as the St Patrick’s Day Lyrical Affair event was held in Caistor.
The whole evening had a green theme and fair play to the many Irishmen and women who turned up as they took in good heart, as always, the fact England had indeed ‘trounced’ them in the earlier Six Nations rugby match.
Three poems from Irish Poet Laureate Seamus Heaney featured through the evening, together with those of Dylan Thomas, Oscar Wilde and W B Yeats, to name a few.
Overall many witty, serious and bright poems were read among an atmosphere of fine music and Irish dancing.
As the Lyrical Affair is a charity event, the RNLI were present, organising a raffle, which raised £100 for funds. Furthermore, an anonymous benefactor had donated a four figure sum to the charity swelling funds even more.
