LINCOLNSHIRE has won Britain’s Favourite Food Competition.
But it was a close one.
Polls were due to close at midnight and at 6pm Lincolnshire was four per cent behind Cornwall.
In a last minute push, East Lindsey District Council launched a high profile integrated social media campaign across Facebook and Twitter to turn this around, with 115 Tweets posted focused on community pride.
James Gilbert, communications officer at ELDC, said: “With help from many local people and colleagues at the BBC (a lot of retweeting) by midnight Lincolnshire had 39.6 per cent of the votes - almost four per cent more than Cornwall.”
He continued: “Lincolnshire is famous across the UK for the quality of its produce. As well as excellent vegetables, cheeses and meats we have wonderful bakeries, many of which use families recipes passed through the generations.
“We are very lucky to live in a county with people so passionate about the food they produce and the percentage of votes Lincolnshire received is a tribute to their efforts and hard work.
“Thank you to everyone who joined our social media campaign to try and ensure that our county’s producers received the recognition they deserved in this competition.”
So there you have it proof that Lincolnshire has some of the best food in the country.
